Building Mechanic Technician

Summary

The main and usual role of the person in this job class is to carry out technical work in the field of building mechanics, to ensure the operation of equipment. They operate and modify mechanical, electrical and control installations, and apply regular and preventive maintenance programs to the various equipment, devices and systems that generate energy or services. In the field of architecture and civil engineering, she may also work on aspects of the various stages in the life of a building, carrying out various technical tasks related to the design, development, verification and supervision of building development, renovation, restoration or construction projects.

Main Responsibilities

Operation and maintenance

  • Carry out various operations required for service requests received in connection with his/her field of expertise, including:
    • Receive requests from users;
    • Assess needs and situations as required;
    • Prioritize work execution;
    • Redirect requests to other specialized maintenance team members as required;
    • Identify and purchase materials according to procedures;
    • Execute work;
    • Make recommendations as required.
  • Carry out administrative operations related to the completion of work via the department’s request management system (opening and closing requests, ordering materials, follow-up with requestor);
  • Support to the maintenance and engineering group manager;
  • Assists in monitoring the maintenance plan for various equipment;
  • Participate in infrastructure and equipment verification and periodic maintenance;
  • Updates of various plans on AutoCad software;
  • Parts inventory management.

Technical, administrative and management tasks

  • Keep up to date all information required for the proper operation of the automated maintenance management system in connection with all building systems;
  • Maintain and update the various registers and IT tools required for building management, maintenance manuals, and general site equipment documentation;
  • Extract data from various information tools to generate operational reports;
  • Contribute to the definition of needs for repairing, improving or modifying existing facilities, and make the necessary recommendations;
  • Provide guidance and support to other members of the Operations, Environment and Mechanics team;
  • Assist in the planning, execution and supervision of work by external firms for recurring contracts and ad hoc work for the entire Material Resources department;
  • Collect, file and maintain drawings on AutoCad software.

Various projects

  • Carry out technical surveys required for the preparation of plans by professional firms;
  • Participates in site visits and surveys for deficiencies at the end of the project;
  • May be called upon to supervise development activities or building renovation, restoration or construction work, at certain stages of the project;
  • Issue recommendations as required.

Miscellaneous tasks

  • In collaboration with the security team, act as respondent for the application of emergency response protocols.
  • All other related tasks.

Required Skills

  • Détenir un diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC) en mécanique de bâtiment ou une attestation d’études dont l’équivalence est reconnue par l’autorité compétente.
  • Doit posséder un permis de conduire
  • Être en mesure d’obtenir son laissez-passer aéroportuaire (vérification antécédents judicaires) dans les 3 premiers mois d’emploi.
  • Maîtrise du français à l’oral et à l’écrit – niveau professionnel.
  • Maîtrise fonctionnelle de l’anglais (bilinguisme, un atout).
  • Connaissance et maîtrise de la suite Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) – essentiel.
  • Maîtrise du logiciel AutoCad.
